Westboro Connection was a large-scale redevelopment of the former Trailhead Paddle Shack site at 1960 Scott Street in Westboro Village, forming the second phase and a cornerstone element of the Westboro Connection development along McRae Avenue. The building is a 25-storey concrete frame that includes 318,000 sq. ft. of space and 279 residential units, with the site strategically located in the Westboro Village neighbourhood, an area that has continued to undergo a significant amount of redevelopment. The building is located in close proximity to the Westboro LRT Station (approx. 110 metres away), which provided a compelling opportunity for redevelopment. The high-rise building is oriented in a grid pattern within site in order to provide logical and direct links to the public realm and sidewalks on along both Scott Street and McRae Avenue.
The orientation of the high-rise building establishes a strong street edge that defines the public realm of streets and open spaces that reflect the desired street pattern. The building form of the development also contributes to the sense of place through distinctive design features, including the use of varying building materials, colours, and landscaping treatment. Morley Hoppner was Construction Manager for this project, providing preconstruction and construction services.
