Kings Daughters and Sons (KDS) Village is a mixed-income, 58-unit, purpose-built affordable housing development for seniors that was completed as an addition to the existing 70-unit building located on Cambridge Street in Ottawa's Glebe Annex. The original building was built in 1964.
KDS Village is a six-storey project aimed to address aging-in-place, facilitating independent living in an established downtown neighbourhood. 15% of the units are barrier-free, with 35% adaptable to meet the mobility needs to allow for aging-in-place. The residential units, hallways, and other public areas all feature grab bars, and the construction is aimed at high standards for energy performance. In fact, the project ultimately achieved LEED Platinum certification, a rare achievement for a multi-residential affordable housing development.
Morley Hoppner was the construction manager for the project, providing preconstruction and construction services, as well as support through the design and development process. The project was completed successfully in the late fall of 2019.
